REMEDIATION & CONTRACTING

We welcome the chance to get dirty.  In communities large and small, CERM is engaged in real-world projects to repurpose brownfields and underutilized real estate assets into anchor institutions that promote economic development and quality of life. You can find us decommissioning facilities in urban and rural environments, forming educational and workforce development partnerships, and producing beneficial outcomes to corporate, governmental and community stakeholders. We engage, rethink, reclaim, retrofit and reinvent real estate and infrastructure assets into sustainable multi-use resources for the public.

Our clients, both public and private, rely on us to empower key stakeholders, to engineer solutions of the highest safety standards, to adhere to regulatory compliance (EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, etc.), and to exercise sustainability best practices. 4th Ward Project – Clear Creek Combined Sewer Overflow Relief Brownfields Project

The Clear Creek Combined Sewer Overflow Relief Basin Construction was the first project undertaken by Atlanta BeltLine Incorporated (ABI) as part of the BeltLine redevelopment plan. This project included revitalization of an existing commercial area by construction of a storm water detention pond in the setting of a passive park with walking paths, an amphitheater, water features, and landscaping. The two-acre lake is a park amenity while serving as a detention basin providing stormwater overflow relief for the combined sewer system in the Historic Fourth Ward area. Environmental challenges in the project included remediation of contaminants from a leaking underground (petroleum) storage tank (UST) system and removal of debris, including asbestos containing material (ACM), from an abandoned construction and demolition (C&D) landfill within the areas designed for stormwater detention.

Atlantic Station Brownfields Redevelopment, Atlanta, Georgia

Located in Midtown Atlanta, The Atlantic Station Brownfield Redevelopment was one of the nation’s largest Brownfields projects. The site encompasses over 160 acres with an estimated development cost expected to surpass $1 billion. The former location of the Atlantic Steel Plant, left dormant for years due to documented environmental contamination at the site, played a pivotal role in community revitalization in the surrounding area and embraces recent risk management tools and environmental regulatory updates that encourage placing these properties into effective use for both employment and tax revenues. Our primary objective was to develop and implement a health and safety plan for the horizontal construction activities at the site, while providing general environmental remediation construction surveillance and safety support.
