Job Summary:

The Senior Design Engineer at CERM will be responsible for monitoring and overseeing the Department’s efficient production of projects, keeping them within budget, on time, and in accordance with current engineering standards.

Duties:

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule

  • Assess the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks, and work with a Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget and staffing
  • Write scope of work based on preliminary review and meetings with the client
  • Assign and review work of project design team. Check progress of work and alert Project Manager to change of scope or additional services
  • Review contractor application for payments. Have a thorough understanding of construction process.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within company and externally with clients and other design professionals. Proficient written and oral communications skills
  • Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and scope of project
  • Promote use of and participate in development of company design and production standards
  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as resource for design questions
  • Keep current on the state of the art in design specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education
  • Encouraged to participate in technical and professional societies
  • Maintain neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to project information required by other team members
  • Provides subject matter updates to client through project managers
  • May serve as deputy project manager
  • Authors project reports and technical sections of proposals

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years' previous design experience, preferably in areas of transportation, water and wastewater
  • Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited university
  • License PE in GA
  • License in AL is strongly desired
  • Must be proficient in the use of a computer for design and understand CAD operations
  • Extensive experience in all areas of transportation and/or site design and is a recognized expert in one specialized area such as roadway, hydrology, wastewater, or construction coordination
  • Able to identify and deal with issues proactively and persistently; seize opportunities that arise
  • Must be able to ensure the effective, efficient and sustainable use of the company’s resources and assets
  • Willingness to foster and support the principles and values of the organization; behave ethically, act fairly, and take responsibility
  • Capacity to focus personal efforts and energy on achieving results consistent with the organization’s objectives
  • Capable of successfully addressing the scope of a project and integrate all aspects of project management

  • Demonstrated capacity to adjust own behaviors to work efficiently and effectively in light of new information, changing situations and/or different environments
  • Possess the skills needed to build and actively maintain working relationships and/or networks of contacts to further the organization’s goals
  • Able to identify and respond to current and future client needs; providing service excellence to internal and external clients
  • Motivated to develop and inspire commitment to the vision of success; supporting, promoting and ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision and values
  • Be obliged to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and positive results
